Music is Life, Tanya Traboulsi’s atmospheric photographic exhibition of the Lebanese underground alternative music scene, last shown in New York, runs 14-20 November at the Pebbledash Gallery, Stoke Newington.  The exhibition opens on Saturday 14 with a special performance by Beirut/Paris rock band The New Government.  Part of the Lebanese Underground, The New Government are edgy, ironic and iconic  – on election day in Lebanon, a vote for The New Government got you 5 of their tracks.  Tanya Traboulsi’s images are evocative, intimate portraits of the wealth of undeground talent from rock/punk to electronica.Vital Statistics:Opening, Saturday 14th November 8pm-2am Tickets £8. Yallah Underground is a vibrant documentary about underground culture in the Middle East, the struggle and the success, filmed through the eyes and actions of the artists who are part of this movement.  The film’s main protagonist is Zeid Hamdan of the Lebanese Underground and will follow him on tour through the region.

DuOudInstrumental, experimental, electronic, eclectic oud players DuOud, Jean Pierre Smadj and Mehdi Haddab, are playing at the newly opened Kings Place as part of the London Guitar Festival.  DuOud are known for their intense, tension filled tracks that mix the sounds of Africa and the Middle East with US/Euro techno synth punctuation. Point for point DuOud provide an original, laconic, cerebral sound which sometimes takes on a trance like dimension and other times takes you to blues and rock, all with a satisfying dry humour.

DuOudWatch out Notting Hill!  tomorrow night 1,001 Knights led by U-Cef are coming.
Kazbah’s favourite urban groover U-Cef & the Arab League will be performing music from his most recent album, Halalwood.
Halalwood features Damon Albarn, Natacha Atlas, Justin Adams, UK Apache, Amina Annabi and Steve Hillage - from Gnawa to Dub Step, Halalwood is a work of imagination that drives your feet to the dance floor. In fact we at Kazbah have ‘borrowed’ U-Cef’s tracks for several of our interviews.
